What drives the cost?

Image size and detail — larger photos and high-detail vision use more input tokens.
Items detected — busier photos produce longer JSON responses (more output tokens).
Model choice — GPT-4o mini is the default and usually costs several times less than GPT-4o for the same photo.
Retries — analyzing the same photo again counts as another API call.

Compared to subscription AI apps

Apps that bundle AI behind a $8–$15/month subscription can cost $96–$180 per year whether you analyze five photos or five hundred. With Yur Home + your own OpenAI key, light use might cost only a few dollars per year in API fees, and heavy use (for example, 500 photos on GPT-4o mini) might still land under $5 in OpenAI charges — while the app itself stays a one-time purchase, not a recurring AI subscription.
